Masekela's riveting "Stimela," a song about displaced workers set to the chugging rhythm of a coal train, quickly silenced the house, just as surely as his version of "Bring Back Nelson Mandela" later turned into a rousing audience sing-along. By contrast, Makeba made Masekela's "Soweto Blues" into a graceful, poignant, deeply moving elegy.
